Sermon synopsis: 'Creeds of Christendom Vol 1 of 2 - THE HISTORY OF CREEDS' by Philip Schaff. Schaff (1819 - 1893), was a Swiss-born, German-educated Protestant theologian and a historian of the Christian church, who lived and taught in the U.S.
In 1843 he became professor of church history and Biblical literature in the German Reformed Theological Seminary of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He became a professor at Union Theological Seminary, New York City in 1870 holding the chair of church history from 1887 until his death. He also served as president of the committee that translated the American Standard Version of the Bible.
Through Creeds of Christendom, Schaff aims to bring understanding to those who adhere to different creeds. He wisely reminds us that despite varying Christian denominations, Christ always remains at the center of the creeds.
